Every question, answered before you ask.
Grouped the way people actually ask them — first as a roofer deciding whether to switch, then as a homeowner deciding whether to sign.
For roofers · is this real
How accurate are the measurements, honestly?Aerial takeoff on a clear, established roof lands within about 2% of on-roof measurement — the same band the aerial providers publish. Add the homeowner's four elevation photos and pitch stops being an assumption. Every number ships with a confidence score, and anything under your threshold is flagged rather than quietly averaged.
What happens when the imagery is bad?Heavy tree cover, a new build, or a 2019 satellite pass all produce a low-confidence takeoff. VF Roof tells you instead of guessing: you can order a third-party report into the same estimate, trace it manually for free, or send the homeowner a guided photo link.
Will AI send a bad quote to my customer?Only if you configure it to. Copilot mode sends nothing without your approval. Autopilot has hard guardrails — dollar cap, minimum confidence, minimum margin, and automatic escalation on insurance claims, structural findings and HOA-restricted addresses. Every autonomous action is logged and reversible for 24 hours.
Do I have to change how I price? No. You load your own price book — per square, per linear foot, per each, per crew-hour — and your own labor rates. Vincent estimates quantities; you own the prices. Import a spreadsheet on day one and we'll map it.
How long does switching take?An afternoon. Price book import, your logo and license number, your contract template, and your color catalog. Most companies send their first VF Roof quote the same day and run it beside their old tool for a couple of weeks.
What if I only do metal? Then you'll notice we built for you first: gauge, panel profile, seam width, oil-canning disclosure, SR/E/SRI data per color, and panel-length cut waste instead of a flat shingle waste factor.
For roofers · money
Why isn't this per seat?Because per-seat pricing punishes you for hiring. Two of the biggest platforms in roofing charge $165–300 per user per month, which is why a five-person shop pays more for software than for its truck insurance. Every VF Roof plan is unlimited users.
What's a measurement credit and why isn't it unlimited?Imagery and compute cost us real money per property, so a credit covers one property's aerial takeoff, photo pitch solve and visualizer mask. Manual takeoff is free and unlimited. If the imagery turns out to be unusable, we refund the credit.
Do you take a cut of my financing? No. Lender offers are shown at their own terms, we take no commission, and we display any dealer fee to you before you present a promo — so a 0% offer that quietly costs you 15% can't hide inside your margin.
What does it cost per closed job?On the Crew plan at 40 quotes a month, software plus credits works out to roughly $8 per quote sent. Against a $27,000 average metal ticket, that is not the number that decides your year — the close rate is.
For homeowners · the quote
Is the price I see the price I pay? It's a fixed contract price for a defined scope, not a range. The two things that can change it are things you approve in writing: hidden deck damage beyond the allowance (with a photo before it's installed), or a change you request. Nothing gets added silently.
What is a 'square' and why does pitch matter?A square is 100 square feet of roof surface. Pitch is how steep it is — a 6:12 roof rises 6 inches for every 12 across. Steeper roofs cost more because the crew works slower and needs more safety setup, and they use more material at hips and valleys.
Do you pull my credit to give me a quote? No. A quote takes no credit information at all. If you ask about financing, pre-qualification is a soft inquiry that doesn't affect your score, and you see real monthly payments before you apply to anyone.
Can I ask for changes without starting over?Yes — that's the point. Request a color, a scope change, a different tier or a different start date, and it goes to the roofer as a tracked request. They price it or explain why they can't, and you see the new number before you sign anything.
Is an electronic signature actually binding?Yes, under the federal ESIGN Act and state UETA laws, provided you consented and saw the document. You'll get a copy with a full audit trail — timestamp, device, and every revision you were shown — and you can print it any time.
Can I still cancel after I sign?In Texas and most states you have three business days to cancel a home-solicitation contract, with no reason and no penalty. It's printed on the contract, not buried in a link.
For homeowners · the roof itself
Will a metal roof make my house hotter? The opposite, usually. Metal reflects rather than absorbs, and we show the solar reflectance index for every color plus an estimated annual cooling saving. A light Galvalume or Almond can drop attic temperature noticeably; matte black will not.
Is metal loud in the rain? Not over a solid deck with underlayment, which is how every roof we quote is built. The noise reputation comes from barn roofs installed over open purlins with nothing underneath.
What is oil canning, and should I worry?Slight waviness visible in flat metal panels at certain angles. It's an inherent characteristic of light-gauge metal, not a defect — heavier gauge, striated or pencil-rib profiles, and darker matte colors all reduce how much you notice it. Your quote discloses it up front instead of after installation.
Can my house handle terra-cotta or slate?Maybe — clay and concrete tile weigh three to five times what shingles do, and slate more. Any tile or slate quote includes a structural review step, and if your framing needs reinforcement, that's priced in, not discovered mid-job.
Do I need a permit, and who pulls it?Texas has no statewide roofing permit; each city and county sets its own rules, and every major Texas city requires a permit for a full replacement. Your roofer pulls it under their registration, the fee appears as a line item, and the permit number is on your contract before day one. If you have an HOA, upload the guidelines and we check your color against them.
How long will my house be a construction site?A typical single-story metal re-roof is three working days plus inspection. You'll see a day-by-day plan, and the house is dried in the same day the old roof comes off — it never sits open overnight.
What does the warranty actually cover? Two separate things: the manufacturer's finish warranty on the metal itself, and your roofer's workmanship warranty on the install. Both are printed in your contract with their real terms and transfer requirements, and the manufacturer registration happens on completion rather than 'later'.
My insurance might cover this. What then?Upload your adjuster's summary. We reconcile it line by line against the measured roof and flag what the carrier missed — area, drip edge, steep charge, code items — so your roofer can supplement it. You typically pay your deductible plus any upgrade you choose, not the whole roof.
Nothing left to ask? Then the only thing left is the quote. Put in an address and see what VF Roof produces for your own house — no card, no call, no demo gauntlet.
